Our current project for the concrete canoe race on 24th and 25th June 2011 in Magdeburg:
The "Lausitzer KOHLEbeißer", a coal mining bucket wheel excavator made of concrete

Every 2 years there is in Germany a student concrete canoe race.
This event is organized and sponsored by the German cement and concrete industry. Participation is open to teams of students from universities, universities of applied sciences, polytechnics, colleges and vocational schools.
Background of the concrete canoe race is the creative and innovative using of concrete technology.
In this case are the projects handled by student groups, from the initial concept to implementation, managed by experienced and highly motivated professors and employees.
The challenge of this project is the analysis of static and structural basics in the context of concrete technology and boat building techniques and their implementation in a creative team.
With all the science but is also the fun of teamwork are at the foreground.

Will be built this watercraft in 2 categories:

"Competition Class"
In the competition class canoes are built to be operated by two people with canoe paddles. The boundary conditions to be followed are specified in the tender documents.
Awards are next to the sports competition on the regatta lake for construction and design. More awards are for the heaviest and the lightest canoe.

"Open Class"
The slogan for the watercrafts is "Is made of concrete and floating yet!"
In the open class for the creativity (nearly) there are no limits. Here are the evaluation criteria of originality, construction, design, equipment / drive, teamwork and presentation.

An extra award goes to the team with the best-designed T-shirt.

We, several students, former students and employees of the degree course civil engineering going to participate at this concrete canoe race in the year 2011, now at 3rd time.
After the surprise success in the year 2007 (Hannover) and 2009 (Essen) we are once again highly motivated.
The next concrete canoe race held on 24th and 25th June 2011 at the lake Salbker See II in the city Magdeburg.

We are going to build a watercraft of the "open class" again.

Our slogan here is: "It is made of concrete and it floats!"
