Master Program in Biotechnology at Lausitz University of Applied Sciences (L.U.A.S.)

  • regular period of study: 1.5 years
  • degree as: Master of Science (MSc)

Aim and Scope of the Master Program

The three semester Master program in Biotechnology is an intensive, laboratory based, research oriented training program which immediately follows the seven-semester Bachelor program in Biotechnology at L.U.A.S. (consecutive BA/MA study). The Master program starts every year in the summer semester.

After two semesters of intensive training, students complete the program with an at least four-months thesis project leading to the degree Master of Science.

To provide our students with a broad theoretical background in two semesters lectures are offered in the following topics

  • Enzyme Technology
  • Gene Technology and Society
  • Immunology
  • Intracellular Proteolysis
  • Microbial Metabolism and Regulation
  • Molecular Dynamics of the Cell
  • Nanobiotechnology
  • Phototrophic Biotechnology
  • Signal Transduction
  • Tissue Engineering

Our master program is focused on achieving practical competencies, educating autonomous self-confident graduates. Students participate three lab courses of five weeks (6 hours per day) in the first two semesters. Specialization is attained by majoring in different lab courses:

To assure individual training on high standard, special emphasis is put on individual training in small groups. Therefore the number of participants is limited. 10% of our places are reserved for foreign applications. All lectures, seminars and laboratory courses are taught in English.

The thesis project involves experimental work under the supervision of a faculty member of the master program. This work can also be done outside the university, i.e. in research institutes or companies.

The admission process is a stepwise procedure, including personal interviews with candidates, if necessary. Requirements include:
