The three semester Master program in Biotechnology is an intensive, laboratory based, research oriented training program which immediately follows the seven-semester Bachelor program in Biotechnology at L.U.A.S. (consecutive BA/MA study). The Master program starts every year in the summer semester.
After two semesters of intensive training, students complete the program with an at least four-months thesis project leading to the degree Master of Science.
To provide our students with a broad theoretical background in two semesters lectures are offered in the following topics
Our master program is focused on achieving practical competencies, educating autonomous self-confident graduates. Students participate three lab courses of five weeks (6 hours per day) in the first two semesters. Specialization is attained by majoring in different lab courses:
| Focus | Microbiology | Cell Biology | Bioanalytics |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.st semester | Metabolic Analysis and Engineering | Basics in Cell Culture | Nanobiotechnology |
| Enzyme Technology | Molecular Biology: Principles, Methods and Applications | Enzyme Technology | |
| Purification and Characterisation of Proteines | Nanobiotechnology | Analytics in Cell Culture | |
| 2.nd semester | Nanobiotechnology | Development and Characterisation of artificial Tissues | Molecular Biology: Principles, Methods and Applications |
| Microbes as Macromolecule Factories | Genetic Engineering of Eucaryotic Cells | Microalgae | |
| 3.rd semester | Master thesis | ||
To assure individual training on high standard, special emphasis is put on individual training in small groups. Therefore the number of participants is limited. 10% of our places are reserved for foreign applications. All lectures, seminars and laboratory courses are taught in English.
The thesis project involves experimental work under the supervision of a faculty member of the master program. This work can also be done outside the university, i.e. in research institutes or companies.
The admission process is a stepwise procedure, including personal interviews with candidates, if necessary. Requirements include:
| National applicants | International apllicants |
